Barbara Jean (Sides) Rice

Barbara Sides Rice, 88, of Apex went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2023 after an extended illness.

Barbara was born on May 5, 1935 to the late Lester and Estelle Sides.  Besides her parents, she is preceded in death her husband James Rice.

Barbara grew up in Greensboro, NC and attended Lee’s McRae College and worked as the Director of Medical Records at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. She enjoyed traveling, camping, swimming and sailing.

Barbara is survived by her stepchildren, James Rice, Jr. and his wife Pam, Susan Rice Norton, and Ronald Rice; grandchildren, James R. Rice and his wife Christa, Jennifer Rice Secrest and her husband Matt; great grandchildren, Remington, Rosie, Colton and Calleigh.

There will be a visitation for family and friends at Donaldson Funeral Home, 396 West Street, Pittsboro, NC from 2:00pm until 3:00 on Sunday, July 23, 2023. Services will immediately follow in the chapel of Donaldson Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barbara’s name to Epworth United Methodist Church, 3002 Hope Valley Road, Durham, NC 27707.
