Alma R. (Helman) Sheldon (Feb. 24, 1922 - Dec. 22, 2021)Alma R. (Helman) Sheldon, age 99, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2021, at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living in Pittsboro, NC. Mrs. Sheldon was born in the Arbutus Park area of Johnstown, PA, on February 24, 1922, daughter of Jacob C. Helman and Anna (Keeler) Helman. She graduated from Richland Township High School (Johnstown, PA) in 1939, where she was active in band. In later years she worked for the school district as an elementary school library aide. She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, George P. Sheldon, as well as her siblings J.Glendon Helman, Mabel Helman, Pauline (Helman) Wire, Flornell (Helman) Coller, and Fern (Helman) Rager, and two grandchildren. In retirement Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon resided for many years in Zephyrhills, FL. Following the death of her husband in 2000, Mrs. Sheldon relocated to Alexandria, VA and then in 2021, to Pittsboro, NC. Mrs. Sheldon had two sons, Lynn and Jeffrey, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. An accomplished musician, Mrs. Sheldon was a church organist for many years, and frequently performed piano/trumpet duets with her husband. She will be interred next to her husband at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery in Dade City, FL. No services are planned at this time. Because Mrs. Sheldon was very active in the Order of Eastern Star, the Ladies’ Oriental Shrine, and other Masonic organizations, her family suggests making gifts in her memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children (www.lovetotherescue.org).
