Raymond Kenneth Benjamin, age 80, loving husband, father and grandfather, died on Thursday, April 26, 2018, after a battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at his home in Pittsboro, N.C., surrounded by his family. Ken was born June 29, 1937, in Newark, N.J., to Clifford Neil and Mary Loretta (McDonough) Benjamin and attended Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, N.J., and Seton Hall University. He married Barbara Amelia Kreusinger in 1963 and together they raised three daughters and a son. A longtime resident of Bloomfield, Glen Ridge, and Milmay, N.J., before retiring to Fearrington Village in Pittsboro, Ken was a cherished member, volunteer and contributor to multiple communities, and all are grateful for his efforts to enrich and improve the lives of those around him.
He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughters Kathleen, Laura, and Heather, son Matthew, sons-in-law Jeff and Brett, daughter-in-law Erika, and grandchildren Henry, Megan, Rachel, Annie, Charlotte, Harrison, Simon, Lily, and Owen.
Relatives and friends can visit with the family on Sunday, April 29 at Donaldson Funeral Home, Pittsboro, from 4pm to 7pm, and a mass will be offered at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Monday, April 30 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Ken’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital fund “Memorial for Ken Benjamin” at 800-822-6344.
