Myron Farrar Obituary

Myron Farrar died on May 30, 2019. Myron was a devoted and loving son, dad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Those, who were fortunate to know Myron, can attest to his huge heart and larger than life smile and personality. You could always count on him to provide a good joke or act of kindness whether it was a helping hand or a plate of food.

Myron was born on January 29, 1959 in Manhattan, New York to Nell Paige Farrar and the late Walter Henry Farrar. He was one of four children, his brothers Rick and Mike and sister Robin, spent their early years in Bronx, New York before the family relocated to Pittsboro, North Carolina.

As a teenager, Myron’s prowess as a basketball player was well-known in the Chapel Hill area, where he frequently played pickup games at Granville Towers with the likes of Michael Jordan and Sam Perkins. His passion for the game of basketball and the North Carolina Tarheels continued throughout his life.

For years, Myron lived near his parents, keeping an eye on them, helping to maintain the home and yard, and preparing “Southern” meals. He loved to entertain his children and their cousins during this period by taking the kids fishing at the nearby pond, bouncing on the trampoline, and cooking up hot dogs and hamburgers. During his life, Myron worked professionally as a painter, chef, and commercial truck driver.

Myron will always be remembered for his love and devotion to family and friends, his “big heart”, and his wonderful smile and sense of humor. He is survived by his daughter Nijah Farrar, his sons Pierre Farrar and Joshua Farrar, his mother Nell Paige Farrar, his sister Robin Farrar-Snidow, his brothers Rick Farrar and Michael Farrar, and his four grandchildren Kimora, Amon, Jalen, and Judah.

A memorial service will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home in Pittsboro, North Carolina at 1:00 pm on June 22, 2019. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions can be made to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center.
