Mary Emma (Edwards) Braxton

Mrs. Mary Emma Edwards Braxton, 91, Chapel Hill, NC died Thursday, August 2, 2018 at her home.

A visitation with the family of Mrs. Braxton will be held from 12:30 p.m. – 1:45 p.m., Monday August 6, 2018 at Orange Chapel United Methodist Church – 1634 Orange Chapel Clover Garden Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27516.

The funeral will start at 2:00 p.m. with the Pastor Cory Oliver and Rev. Carl Belcher officiating. The family will receive friends and guests in the fellowship hall following the committal service. 

Mrs. Braxton will be laid to rest in the church mausoleum.

Mary Emma Edwards was a native of Orange County and a daughter of the late Alberta Lashley and McKinley George Edwards.  As a young girl, she attended school at White Cross Elementary and Chapel Hill High School.  Her career would span nearly 40 years as a supervisor over the laundry facility at UNC and she was married to Mr. Winfred Braxton for nearly 67 years, until his passing on March 18, 2012.

Mrs. Braxton was a life-long member of Orange Chapel UMC and was well known for the delicious fried apple pies she made from scratch and beautiful homemade quilts she stitched.  She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, adoring grandmother & great-grandmother.

Mrs. Braxton is preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Survivors include her two sons, Larry Braxton (Wanda) and George Braxton; her grandchildren, Travis Braxton (Lesia), Pete Braxton (Emily), Brett Braxton (Amber) and Bryan Braxton (Lisa); along with her six great-grandchildren, McKinley, Karley, Emma Riley, Addison, Trent and Deacon.
