Harry Reitz, III Obituary

Mr. Harry (Jim) Reitz, III, 78, peacefully passed Monday morning, surrounded by his family, at the UNC Hospice Home of UNC Healthcare in Pittsboro, NC, October 29, 2018.

A native of Philadelphia, PA, Jim was born November 27, 1939 to the late Harriet Krug Reitz and Harry James Reitz, II. Jim was an iron worker who fabricated and erected steel framework, pre-engineered metal buildings, and bridges in the greater Philadelphia area.

Jim was admired for his amazing tenacity. He loved to spend time on the ocean, off-shore fishing and boating. He loved a good card game and good food. Jim had a passion for his dogs, especially Maddy, his beloved Rottweiler, who could be found riding with him in the passenger’s seat of his vehicle.  He was known as “Poppie” to his grandchildren, whom he treasured. He never met a stranger, but if he did, he treated them like family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Laura Abruzzo.

He is survived by his three children; daughter, Carol Reitz-Barlow and spouse, Jerry of Pittsboro; son, James Reitz and spouse, Paola of Okeechobee, FL; and daughter, Jill Campbell and spouse, Ben of Ooltewah, TN; along with three grandchildren, Madison, Tucker, and Benjamin.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, 7111 Lee Highway, Chattanooga, TN 37421. Family will receive family and friends 10 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church.
