Eva Hackney, Jr.

Eva Hackney , Jr. ,  87,  of  1490  Hillsboro Street, Pittsboro, NC died Saturday, December 23, 2017 at UNC Memorial Hospital, Chapel Hill, NC.

Mr. Hackney was born in Chatham County on September 28, 1930, the youngest child of Evander Hackney, Sr. and Callie Eubanks Hackney.

Eva was an active member of Rock Spring Baptist Church of Pittsboro until his declining health.  He had served as a Deacon, an adult Sunday School teacher and a member of the House and Grounds Committee.  Eva worked at Chatham Mills in Pittsboro for 45 years. He enjoyed working in his yard  and garden as well as spending time with his loving family.

Eva was preceded in death by his parents;  brothers, Robert, Lewis and Jim Hackney;  sisters,  Betty Cotten,  Julia Mendenhall and Minnie Knox; and his son, Kenneth Hackney. 

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene Cooper Hackney;  two daughters,  Barbara Hackney McMasters and husband, Joe of Siler City, NC and Linda Hackney  Glosson  of Pittsboro; granddaughters, Gina Thompson and husband Shawn of Siler City,  Allison McMasters of Raleigh, NC, Candice Glosson of Pittsboro; grandson, Joshua  Glosson  of Pittsboro;  great-grandson, Trey Thompson of Asheboro, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Laurels of Chatham and  the MICU and UNC  Memorial Hospital for their special care during Eva’s declining health.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:00AM at Rock Spring Baptist Church in Pittsboro, NC with the Reverend Wesley Thomas and Reverend Travis Bodine officiating. 

A reception will follow the burial in the fellowship hall of Rock Spring Baptist Church.
