Carl Henry Outz, age 86, of Pittsboro, passed Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Jim & Betsy Bryan UNC Hospice Home of UNC Healthcare.
Carl was born in Oconee County, South Carolina on May 10, 1931 to the late Joe Outz and Belle Marett Outz.
Mr. Outz was a graduate of Clemson University and was employed by the North Carolina Extension Service for 30 years. He served his country in the United States Navy for two years of active service and six years in the reserves.
Mr. Outz worked in Chatham County for many years as the Extension Poultry Agent. He also worked to have toll-free county wide telephone service and county wide water. He received the Distinguished Service Award from the National County Agents Association in 1982.
Mr. Outz was a member of Pittsboro Baptist Church, Pittsboro Lions Club and a Board Member of Chatham County Farm Bureau for 35 years. He served on the Chatham County Board of Commissioners for eight years and on the Board of Directors of Central Electric Membership Cooperative for 12 years.
In retirement, Carl was an avid farmer with a passion for growing blueberries and tomatoes that he loved sharing with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Laura Perry Outz; one son Carl Henry Outz, Jr. of Pittsboro; daughter, Jennifer Outz Griffin and husband Marty of Kernersville, NC; sis, June Nesmith and husband, George of Manchester, Georgia; two granddaughters, Lauren Griffin Karr and husband, Drew and Morgan Griffin Hawkins and husband, Chase.
A Memorial Service was held Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 2PM at Pittsboro Baptist Church with Rev. Tripp Harmon and Rev. Bob Wachs presiding. The family received friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
