Crematory

By choosing Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory, you gain peace of mind with our superior cremation services and the comfort of knowing that your loved one will always be in the compassionate care and capable hands of our professional staff. We offer cremations at our private crematory so your loved one never leaves the shelter of our expert care. Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory is local, family-owned and operated, and continues serving Chatham County families in the same tradition and location, since George Jeter Griffin opened the door in 1916.

We are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If you have any questions, or need our assistance, please call 919-542-3057. We will begin caring for you and your family immediately.

Your Loved One Never Leaves Our Care.

We own and operate our own crematory with licensed and certified staff. This ensures we can manage and supervise the cremation for you.

Safeguarding Personal Identity

To ensure security, and eliminate the possibility of any error, Donaldson Funeral Home & Crematory will place a personal identification band on your loved one at the moment your loved one is transferred in to our care.

Our Unique Tracking System

At Donaldson funeral Home & Crematory, every person in our care is logged into our tracking system and assigned as identification number, which is stamped into a stainless-steel identification disc. This number is used to track every phase of the cremation process. Our tracking system includes date and time of arrival at our facility and name of the transfer staff member. Personal belongings are cataloged and placed in a secure area for their return to the family.

Family Identification

Our staff will bathe and dress your loved one in the clothes provided by the family or a gown we provide. Then, we will ask you, or a representative to positively identify him or her prior to cremation in the casket or cremation container of your choice.

Our Cremation Process

Our high standard require that two individuals will review all cremation paperwork prior to cremation. This is to ensure authorizations have been received and have been properly documented. Once all documentation is verified, both staff members must sign the cremation order, prior to the cremation.

We record the name of your loved one, the date and time of cremation, identification number, crematory operator’s name, as well as additional information regarding the cremation. Our crematory log is dated, and the start time is noted and initialed by our licensed crematory operator before and after the cremation.

The crematory documents, personal identification band and stainless-steel identification disc are placed on the outside of the cremation chamber during the cremation process.

After the Cremation

After the cremation is complete, the cremated remains are placed with the stainless-steel identification disc into an urn. You will be presented with an official Certificate of Cremation when you receive the cremated remains that guarantees all the above steps have been followed. If you would ever like to take a tour of our cremation facility, please call in advance and make an appointment.
