Dearest Edward, Barber, and Agnes,
I am so sorry to hear about your dad! As we grew up, your dad and mom were both so welcoming to all your friends into their home and I so enjoyed my talks with them. Just a few years ago, I saw Edward and his dad on the streets of Pittsboro and I just had to stop to say hello and I am so glad I did!! I remember your dad with fondness and much respect!! My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time!
Love, Sherry Strowd Andrews

Edward, I recognized the name in my Charlotte paper and wanted to write. So sorry to see that you lost your dad. He sounded like he was am amazing man and I know you will follow in his footsteps as you already did when I met you. (We met back in the 90's when I worked at Unisource in Raleigh.). I thought maybe I would see you at the beach over Memorial day weekend and meet your family......perhaps some day. My thoughts & prayers for you and your family. Regards, Sue

My condolences to the family, and especially to Ed Jr. whom I got to know through our time together on the Energy Policy Commission. Both Ed and Mary Hayes were the best of people and true leaders in Chatham County. They were beloved by all who knew them and are greatly missed.

To dear Edward, Barber, and Agnes, and to all of your families: We were so shocked to learn of your dad's death. What a wonderful, kindhearted, caring man Ed was, as was Mary Hayes--and all of their great qualities have been passed on to you all! So many good memories we have, and the love shown by the Barber and the Holmes families to the Housers will never be forgotten. So sorry we are unable to attend any services for your dad, Please know how much we are thinking of you, sending thoughts and prayers, and join you in celebrating your dad! Much love to all!

Ed Holmes was an extraordinary man. One of the best that I have ever known. The Barber and Holmes families were one of the first families that we met after moving 2 doors down from Wade Sr. I remember my dad telling me how pleased was to know Ed and Mary Hayes. I remember Mr. Holmes talking to me about my career in bridge design. He was so interested about it.. Pittsboro and Chatham County has lost a gentle giant. He left a huge mark on the town and county that cannot be replaced. My prayers go out to the Holmes and barber families,

Chatham has lost a giant in the passing of Ed Holmes. Mr. Holmes served the Chatham County Board of Education for over 40 years. I was very fortunate to work with him during my career in Chatham. He was a consummate attorney and a superb contract law arrorney. I was so fortunate to see him in action on a case for the school system. Please know Carolyn and I mourn his passing and I will always miss his sage advice. What a man!
